Hmm, wonder what impact California Senate Bill 571 will have on media/photographers in wildfire zones. (esp. independent folks). I guess, make sure your PPE gear is stripped of old insignias and is marked with "MEDIA" in bright reflective letters, I would suppose.

@vk3xe LOL that's why I have a number of old rigs on my workbench... not fixed for a few years. Got too busy with other life things!

@vk3xe Oh yeah, if you have time I'm sure it would be rewarding to build one... lots to learn/understand about the whole thing anyway! Anyway, I have spent a lot of time debugging PLL lock issues on old radio repairs (all of them due to components drifting beyond spec and needing to adjust something to get them back in the right range).

@vk3xe They are finicky things, and quite involved! It's surprising how many older radios (before the 2000's) had entire boards dedicated to a VFO/PLL circuit! Very interesting to understand, for sure. (the modern projects use a DDS because the VFOs are so fiddly, particularly PLLs)
