@petergleick Perhaps somewhat related: I see many people on here apologetically prefacing their happy announcements with something like “I know the world is on fire but…” I totally understand the intention, but I wish people didn’t find it necessary to do so. We don’t need to be reminded that the world is on fire, and we can just skip ahead to sharing your bit of joy.

“Upcycling”

On our trip to Vietnam, we walked around Hanoi’s Old Quarter and came across a hidden gem of a cafe — called, uh, Hidden Gem Cafe — which uses recycled items for its decor and furniture, including rubber tires, spoked wheels, and motorcycle parts. And it’s where I encountered possibly the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had.
