@alice Assume this is a love lock situation but what do I know? Seen on a gate to a fire access road while hiking in the foothills above Santa Barbara today.

@alice This one lives exactly one mile from the closest oceanfront. It has to have been at least 2 years. Probably more like 3 years.

@alice Oh my, your lock posts prompt me to share this story: Years ago, on my bike commute, I saw an open padlock on the ground. I picked it up mostly so no one would ride over it, then impulsively slapped it onto a wire fence along the bike path a few miles down the road and locked it. To this day, I still see it on my commute (photo taken today). Perhaps not quite a love lock. But if you’re ever in the Santa Barbara area, I know a place where your skillz can be applied.
