If I worked for Mastodon, I would create a turn key solution for parties that want to set up a Mastodon server for all their party candidates. -

We’re leaving X.@zaire absolutely, but as a small political party we have to be where our voters are and potential voters. Sure, we’d like everyone to move to independent platforms like the Fediverse and dump US corporate media. But until that happens we’re stuck with an impossible choice - stay and inform & provoke for change, or leave and loose that important piece of influence. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

We’re leaving X.@Jkp we’ve been here for a year already. We’re all volunteers with many public issues to speak to. We really only cross-posted to Twitter because NI journalists were still hanging on there. It wasn’t a priority as we didn’t pay it much attention.

-
We’re leaving X.@nic We’ve been here for almost a full year now and you’re right, the engagement is disproportionate to the size of our audience here. We’re committed here for the long term (if I have anything to do with it!) as it really is the only truly independent non-corporate US option. Plus it’s filled with cool independently minded people. Including me on a personal account.

We’re leaving X.@mast0d0nphan @loops @pixelfed Simply put, we have to be where our (potential) voters are!
-
We’re leaving X.@alan @martinvermeer no one said it was “snap”.
Seriously, navigating NI politics is a full time job done by a committed group of passionate volunteers. Some things take time to be ‘obvious’ when you’re holding down full time jobs elsewhere and so many issues to address! -
We’re leaving X.@nic @plaidcymru @ZackPolanski thank you. I started this account when I volunteered to manage our social media. We have 10 different accounts to attend to. Plus figuring out what to post when and where! And making videos. And planning ahead. Really it’s a full time job!

We’re leaving X.@JimmyB @noodlemaz don’t be so harsh. Yes we probably should have jumped some time ago as many of us wanted to. But we’re a small volunteer led democratic party with a lot of other things to attend to. And our local press were still there and potentially people who needed to hear our messaging. We’ve mostly been cross-posting with very little engagement so it was not a priority item until the latest outrage.

We’re leaving X.@JimmyB we’re a small political party. We have to use platforms to reach potential voters, even if we personally agree with your sentiments.
-
We’re leaving X.@MichaelMcWilliams it would be great if everyone we need to reach was on one perfect channel. Unfortunately they’re not. We maintain presence on platforms we personally may not like, but getting our messaging to potential members, volunteers, and voters where they are is fundamentally important.

For safety, democracy and basic responsibility. We won’t stay on a platform that fails children, enables deepfake abuse and fuels disinformation.
