We can see that the people speaking out about ICE and data centers is having an effect. Public opinion still matters, at least as long as we have (publicly) elected officials who are (supposed to be) beholden to their constituents.
Let those fuckers know where you stand. Make noise, say it loudly, and repeat it so they cannot ignore it.
It’s easy to feel hopeless, but remember, we outnumber them. They cannot exist without us. We have the power… we just need to use it.
I’ve seen a lot of articles and posts about AI that use the term “like it or not” as in “like it or not, AI is here, and we might as well get used to it” and that is such bullshit.

@taylorlorenz Real quick off the top of my head I usually say the Fediverse is not controlled by Billionaires, can't be bought/sold or controlled, isn't filled with ads, doesn't track you or try to sell your information, isn't filled with Nazis (they are on their own servers and I never see them because they are blocked) and there's not an algorithm trying to feed me crap I don't want to see.

I had one car-brained person tell me I am probably making the roads *more* dangerous because I enrage other drivers who want to go faster... Sigh.
@farah @hellomiakoda I haven't driven for weeks due to pain but on my first drive this week I was going 25mph in a 25mph zone (a parkway) and a large SUV flew around me (it's just a two lane road) and hey, guess who I caught up to at the next stoplight.
@hellomiakoda With the leg pain I suffer from it can be very painful to use the accelerator pedal so adaptive cruise it a good solution for that.
@hellomiakoda I like my old 2010 Subaru. My partner drives a 2019 RAV4 and it has cameras and sensors and beeps like fucking crazy every time we pull out of the garage.
I actually use an old phone as my "car audio player".
The one thing I do really like in the 2019 is the adaptive cruise control which would come in handy with my current leg pain situation.
But yeah, I like knobs and no warning beeps.
@jasoncoon Sometimes the new things offer improvements but you often pay a price when it comes to repairs or replacement parts.
I have an electric toothbrush (recommended by my dentist) that has a bad power button but no screws to open the case. Sigh…

Capitalism has convinced people that new always equals “better” so if you want to rebel against Capitalism start to recognize that “new” is often just a way to extract more money from you.
Existing (or “old”) things can be functional and beautiful, and often easier to repair.
The word “old” should not be an insult. Not to things or to people.

@oberhamsi @lynze @mkj @terranux Well, I'm a dummy! In my half asleep state I thought the beeping was coming from the NAS, but in reality it was the UPS next to it!
Luckily there is a button to press to turn off the UPS beeping. It shows a battery error, which is worrisome as the UPS isn't even a year old yet.
I wonder if the cold of the basement is causing an issue.
