That's basically what happened to the Confederate crew of the Hunley is it not?

The Civil war submarine planted their explosive in the hull of the Housatonic using the spar on the nose of the Hunley and the explosion occurred either before the Hunley could back away or because they triggered it to explode before backing away.

That's the last of what was known of the Hunley until its discovery in 1995. It appears that the Hunley sank shortly after the explosion, the crew apparently disabled.

As a veteran, I have to say that I really thought the theft of classified documents and storing them insecurely would bring DT down. I can't understand why not even yet.

That's a pretty astute observation. It's difficult for a genuinely nice person to fake being mean because it may hurt someone's feelings, which is contrary to their nature.

But a mean person may well fake being nice as a way of manipulation, which is part of being mean.
