@greenpartyni Good. Better late than never

@noodlemaz @d10c4n3 @JimmyB behind every avatar is a person!

@greenpartyni @d10c4n3 @JimmyB lol not you guys, the other person I was talking with who had a go at you for not leaving earlier!
-
@nic @plaidcymru @ZackPolanski thank you. I started this account when I volunteered to manage our social media. We have 10 different accounts to attend to. Plus figuring out what to post when and where! And making videos. And planning ahead. Really it’s a full time job!

@greenpartyni this is going to be a niche space, at least for the foreseeable, but you will have a disproportionate level of engagement here, if you put a bit of time into it. Obviously, time is not a infinite resource, so good luck!

@greenpartyni Why are you still on Facecrook, Instasham, TikCock, PooTube, Redshit, Deads and PooSky?
Switch to @loops, @pixelfed, Friendica, Lemmy/PieFed, anywhere else on the Fediverse!
-
@greenpartyni I don't suppose 'what took you so long' is appreciated as a reply
@martinvermeer @greenpartyni It was a two-year long snap decision.

-
@JimmyB @noodlemaz don’t be so harsh. Yes we probably should have jumped some time ago as many of us wanted to. But we’re a small volunteer led democratic party with a lot of other things to attend to. And our local press were still there and potentially people who needed to hear our messaging. We’ve mostly been cross-posting with very little engagement so it was not a priority item until the latest outrage.
@noodlemaz @greenpartyni ok - firstly: I need to apologise. I do not want to criticise the decision to stay or leave. I fully get why folks are still there
For me - and I’m sure I expressed myself badly - it’s the framing which matters (ie *now* we have to go) which kind of normalises what went before. Anyway… I don’t want to be fighting the Green Party who I support wholeheartedly…
-
@martinvermeer @greenpartyni It was a two-year long snap decision.

@alan @martinvermeer no one said it was “snap”.
Seriously, navigating NI politics is a full time job done by a committed group of passionate volunteers. Some things take time to be ‘obvious’ when you’re holding down full time jobs elsewhere and so many issues to address! -

@mast0d0nphan @loops @pixelfed Simply put, we have to be where our (potential) voters are!

Still, two years to drop the platform owned by a guy who offered us a Nazi salute? Yeah, my sarcasm stands.
Now I'll forgive you still having X and FB on your website, that takes more work than an email vote on "should we drop X", composing a good-bye post, waiting a few months, and hitting the close account button.

@greenpartyni I am pleased to hear that. It's the right thing to do.
While you're at it, any chance you could have a word with your friends in the Green Party of England and Wales? They seem to still be on Twitter, and, as you have realised, that's becoming rather hard to defend.
-
@greenpartyni Now ditch Threads & Facebook.
Zukerberg isn't much better than Musk, though smarter.@raymaccarthy
It's still better to do it step by step than not doing at all… -

Yes.And in N.I itself the UK institutionalised bigotry in the 1998 GFA. Only the parties declaring as "Unionist" and "Nationalist" can be in power (First Minister & Deputy Minister MUST come from those two.
That is a big issue for the Greens and Alliance party. Getting seats is a first step for those parties. A region where in many places you need to put up Election posters late at night etc.
Outsiders suffer bigotry from Nationalists, Republicans & worst Unionists.

@nic We’ve been here for almost a full year now and you’re right, the engagement is disproportionate to the size of our audience here. We’re committed here for the long term (if I have anything to do with it!) as it really is the only truly independent non-corporate US option. Plus it’s filled with cool independently minded people. Including me on a personal account.

@greenpartyni
Since I (and many others ) figured this one out years ago we are already here
So
Welcome, what took you so long !
@Jkp we’ve been here for a year already. We’re all volunteers with many public issues to speak to. We really only cross-posted to Twitter because NI journalists were still hanging on there. It wasn’t a priority as we didn’t pay it much attention.

@greenpartyni Changing socials is like using web forms for people to email you. You choose the format and what you need and will accept from them.
Using Mastodon is just publishing your new email address. -

For parties/institutions/govt depts/corps/countries etc. that wish to develop their own Fedi servers, I would suggest using X/BlueSky/Facebook/Insta/Threads etc. simply to replicate the *original* posts/threads on these servers. So all followers on those platforms know where to go to interact seriously. -

Why are you remaining on Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok? Those, too, are either in danger of falling to the same vices as Twitter, or are already on the way there. Wouldn't it be better to convince people to join free social networks instead?
