Is there a way to set recurring tasks (daily, every Wednesday etc) in #NextCloud tasks?

Because if there isn't I am developing a very strong suspicion that NextCloud developers aren't the ones who do the housework in their households

@afewbugs The question is not just the implementation: If you mark a task as done or set the progress, what do you expect with recurring tasks? Reset to zero? Should the already started task be thrown away/removed and started from scratch? How to handle updates of other data?
Just my 50ct. PS: I am considering starting an app that might fit your need but this is a different story.

@afewbugs As someone who struggles with doing things on a schedule, IMO there's a sub-type of the second - the tasks that need to be done some amount of time after they were *last* done, whether or not that actually matched the schedule. I want to push a button to indicate that the sheets have in fact been changed, and the next reminder should be X weeks after that date, not end up at odds with the calender because they actually got changed 3 days after the reminder and the skew just keeps accumulating. I don't think I've ever seen this option in any scheduling software.

I do track recurring task in my task manager. But they are not chores.

My recurring tasks are of nature where I have to make certain payments every month/quarter, or renew domain every x years etc.

I do the chores daily, and adding them to task manager is more hassle than worth it IMO

(After writing such a long reply, now I'm wondering whether OP meant this as a joke ‍️)

@ljrk I use Todoist which works really well, but as I'm looking at European alternatives and already use NextCloud for file storage I thought I'd take a look at their task manager

@afewbugs does it work with the android nextcloud app ?

Also, if it doesn't do what you want, I believe the idea is you can file a bug report on GitHub, and then be told you're doing it all wrong... Or something, cos open source.

@afewbugs Great thread. I think sometimes about how many thousands of lives are saved every day by the cleaning staff at hospitals, but they never get recognition for it, since Preventing a Terrible Thing isn’t nearly as exciting as Fixing Terrible Thing (that maybe could have been prevented)

@afewbugs @jtx tbh i've been able to keep track of my recurring tasks in my mind, but it really sucks. also for things like taking medicine on a regular schedule it would be so great to have recurring tasks

https://donetick.com/ is self-hostable and very specifically aimed at managing housework. Also US-based though

@afewbugs relatedly, I'm pretty sure the people who design kitchen and bathroom fittings and furnishings have never cleaned a bathroom or kitchen, and don't do much cooking either

As a cleaner, married to a caretaker, I can assert that architects have never had to clean or maintain a building....

@suearcher @kitten_tech my fun story about architecture is I used to work in a university building designed by a famous and award winning architect. It had a recessed light well in the roof with a glass skylight at the bottom. The problem was there was no outlet pipe at the bottom of the light well, so when it rained it filled up with water like a huge suspended swimming pool

@suearcher @kitten_tech this was obviously a somewhat alarming state of affairs for those who had to work underneath it, trusting the strength of the glass, so it was drained and a sort of greenhouse like contraption built over the top to prevent it from refilling.

@suearcher @kitten_tech This was all before my time so I didn't witness it, but we did have to live with the consequences when I was working there which were that the top floor of the building was unbearably hot every summer due to being encased in a hastily erected greenhouse

@suearcher @kitten_tech @afewbugs As a lawyer I can tell you that the IT "designers" used by the courts, CPS, solicitors and counsel, have no idea how any of us work, what information we need and in what form.
I used to be handed all the papers at court for the cases I was dealing (up to 15+) could scan them, hand them to clients to read, and go back and take instructions. Easy. Now we get it on line at court (eventually). I can't pass my laptop over can I..FFS.
