    @retech @inthehands
    With respect, if "standing in the streets did nothing to hurt them;" they wouldn't be killing people for doing that.

    @retech @Gorfram @inthehands standing in the streets is the most effective civil disobedience people can do tbh, combined with striking, woof sheesh.

    unless you want to have a hot civil war, being the streets and fucking up government function and commerce is, historically, the number one thing for a civilian population to do to succeed without war. but hey, who knows, maybe ignoring history and "quitting facebook" will actually be the ticket somehow.

      @retech @Gorfram @inthehands but also, can't ignore that they are following their word to a tee so far, so, at some point you're going to have to dearrest people if you ever want to see them again and then deal with the consequences of that. better to rattle the keys to power by grinding their machine to halt before it reaches that point.

        @inthehands @retech @Gorfram quitting a website has never toppled a regime, but occupying the streets and striking has multiple times, just saying... basic pragmatism disagrees with you.

                I hope ICE and CBP actually leave soon. I’ll believe it when they do. They’re still out there right now. They’re still horrible. They’re still destroying lives •this morning•.

                Agreed that we cannot let up our vigilance.

                However, I would assume they are going to another city to do the next iteration. There was LA. Then there was Chicago. Then there was MSP.

                They don't have enough agents to attack multiple cities, but they are refining their methods. Like the Borg, they learn from their encounters with the us. I can only hope that other cities can learn from what was done here (I am SO proud of MSP!) and they can defend themselves as well.

                Meanwhile, we still need to shut DHS down. To quote MN Senator Tina Smith: "We need to rip ICE down to the studs and start over." https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/29/opinion/ice-trump-good-pretti.html

                  That is very, very, very bad advice. Ignoring him won't solve the problem. It will only make things worse. Don't believe him verbatum. But *do* parse his speech thoroughly. Read between the lines. It is *vital* that we gather every scrap of intelligence that we can. Ignorance can get you killed. Or worse.

                  “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” -- Sun Tzu, *The Art of War *

                    The smarter, more stable ones with the long-term agenda will happily let the noisy gung-ho over the top fascists lead that charge break a bunch of shit and burn out-- they'll toss them under the bus to make it look like we had a win and things can get back to "normal", back to our previously scheduled and still steadily escalating police brutality and oppression.

                      If I’m guessing, I expect them to go hard on strategies that are much less visible: snatching people from jails instead of streets, mass detention camps that nobody can see inside, that sort of thing. They need to sustain the terror, but they can’t afford to keep looking so bad in videos while they do it.

                      Update from later in the day in MSP:

                      I’ve heard or uttered variations on the phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it” in numerous conversations through out the day. That seems to be the prevailing sentiment. People are willing to be hopeful, but nobody’s counting their chickens just yet.

                        In the meantime, please note carefully the rhetorical deception Republicans are playing in the Senate:

                        They are whining that Democrats are holding up funding for the whole DHS because “they’re angry about this incident” (meaning the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti) but “There are thousands of arrests that are happening every day that are happening by the book” (i.e. without a murder).

                        Deception: because the objection isn’t just the two murders; it’s the utterly reckless, unconstitutional, authoritarian behavior of ICE that Good and Pretti were protesting when ICE murdered them.

                          My request today from Minneapolis to the world, and especially the rest of the USA, is to keep the facts in that linked thread clear, and keep the pressure up on •all• the Senators accordingly.

                          The problem is not just that ICE murdered two people. The murders (it was more than two) are the tip of a horrible iceberg.

                            @inthehands Yeah, I mean, I am angry about those two incidents also - but, none of these arrests should be happening in the first place. Neither Pretti nor Good would have been in a position for those 'incidents'(murders) to even happen if there wasn't *already* a problem for them to be protesting and documenting.

                              Also 2 completely separate incidents (if you ignore another dozen or so incidents) point to something deeper even if they weren't also violating people's rights in a bunch of other ways.

                              Even in their dismissal they still have to acknowledge a large enough fuck up (2 unprovoked murders within a month caught on camera) to justify scrapping the whole agency

                                @inthehands "they're angry about this incident" sorry, is it somehow unreasonable to be angry about murder?? and to reduce that to mere "incident"??

                                  @inthehands

                                  Agreed: These are the two most well-documented and publicized murders by the Gestapo, but they're far from the only ones and I think people as a whole are realizing that. The expectation is that when the government is lying out their asses about something so clear and real, then the depths of their perfidy have no floor.

                                  Funding isn't being withheld because of those two, not quite -- it's that their cases show a department which has dispensed with the very pretense of accountability, and that means that an infinite array of failures and monstrous abuses lies just below the already swastika-tattooed skin.

                                      @elala @inthehands can we acknowledge that Obama brought us Tom Homen? Or is this going to be another comforting blindspot for one of our tribes?

                                      It's aknowleged. Can we acknowlege that the democrates brought us the war on drugs, the opening act on this hell? Can we acknowlege that the republicans and the FBI killed King? Can we acknowlege all wars are profit centers for big business. Can we acknowlege that this government is screwing us because a majority of voters stayed home? How about we stuff it and focus on getting a democracy back by all actively participating in positive resistance and voting. I'm 70 and could shove I told you so's in everyones face all day, but its totally unproductive and disincentivises participation.

                                        Ok, so let those folks be charged with murder then.

                                          OK, so yesterday I wrote that abductions were still continuing to happen in Minneapolis despite the big announcement, but today…abductions are also still continuing to happen.
