@catsalad Little known fact, the "turbo" button turned on a special fan that injected gasoline directly into your CPU for added speed.
@monsieuricon @catsalad Actushually, it injected nitric oxide (NOX) into the southbridge, which was then shunted to the CPU via specialized PCB channels.
Which anyone who actually built a homebrew computer in the 80s would know.
Sheesh.

@monsieuricon@social.kernel.org @catsalad@infosec.exchange if you put your ear onto the computer whilst pressing "turbo" you can hear Vin Diesel whisper "Family"

@FediThing @catsalad 3FA: you need two keys, one from a coworker, inserted and turned simultaneously to launch Outlook.

@catsalad Is this from the LGR Woodgrain 486 series? I was watching that recently lol
-
@Mustardfacial Like cranking up an engine! Lol
@catsalad @Mustardfacial don't forget to hold the turbo button while you crank it, and back off just as the bootloader catches.

@rotopenguin @catsalad You only have to do that in the winter. Air is usually warm enough in the summer that it'll fire up right away.
-
@catsalad When I was like 12 or 13 I modified one of those locks to be the power button thinking it would be so cool to have a computer that could only be turned on with a lock. The rest of my family unfortunately, didn't think so.
@Mustardfacial @catsalad I still keep stumbling over these.

"surely malicious actors don't know about screwdrivers, do they?" -
@catsalad Yes! Exactly!
@Mustardfacial @catsalad Fun fact: this does actually exist.
Yes, there are cases where the power switch is rigged to a key. I guess for businesses that want their systems to never ever be shut off or something, lol. -
OG Computer Security

@catsalad ooh a physical key pair
