Watch | Former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the invasion of a sovereign state and the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, stressing that such actions are a blatant breach of international law and the UN Charter.
Corbyn questioned why UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer refuses to acknowledge what an obvious violation, noting the contradiction between Starmer’s silence and his frequent claims of being a human rights lawyer.
Drawing a comparison, Corbyn pointed out that Starmer firmly supports Denmark’s constitutional right over Greenland, yet avoids taking a principled stand when international law is openly violated elsewhere.
He stressed that no state has the legal authority, under the UN Charter, the International Court of Justice, or any principle of international law, to invade another country, abduct its president, and detain him without jurisdiction.
