    @Mab_813 Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to the conversation. How about we START by urging Americans to protest and worry, after they do, if that works? For now, instead of criticizing the approach or the messengers, why isn't it enough for you to merely say, "Yes, this is what we need?"

    @augieray

    I just wrote that protests are vital in the US right now, apparently you didn't read that part?

    Why are you repeating the 3,5 % rule when it has been debunked years ago?

    Obviously protests have worked in many cases, but there isn't a magical 3,5 % threshold, so I don't get why people keep repeating that number.

    The protests and actions by Minnesotans are very impressive and inspiring (another part of my post that you just jumped over, apparently). And I don't need to "urge" US Americans to protest as a European (= from the outside), they're already doing that, and risking their lives, as Minneapolis has shown.

        I think we’re well past the point of “they can’t do that because it’s not legal/allowed”.

          Alex Pretti filmed officers during a protest, kept his handgun holstered, was wrestled to the ground, had his weapon taken away, and then was shot dead, and Conservatives are calling him a terrorist.

          @augieray We’ve been seeing this for decades. They aren’t people. Right wingers say whatever they’re told to (no beliefs), rage against evidence of their ignorance (can’t learn and think), and feel nothing at the sight of atrocities (no emotions).

          So they have no principles nor values, no thoughts, and no emotional motivations. Therefore they can’t possibly have agency. There’s nothing to derive it from.

          They’re not people.

            Actions by this government in '25, '26 is the reason for Kyle Rittenhouse getting away with murder. No different than the get out of jail free card Trump was dealt by the billionaires owning the DOJ for those 34 felonies ignored by the press. All illegal actions that will not end until we end their terrorism.

                @starlily I'm not the one fighting, "Chief." In a world where people can pick fights with MAGAts and conservatives, it pisses me off when people want to pick fights with people with whom they agree because they think they got one point of their argument incorrect.

                Seriously, train your fire on the people destroying democracy. Not the people you disagree with when they say 3.5% of the populace protesting can make a difference.

                      @NicelyManifest There are lawyers fighting for the right side. And Trump is losing many cases. But with government agencies purging attorneys who don't agree and many Trump-appointed lawyers protecting him, it isn't a cut-and-dried situation. Making arguments to biased courts isn't always a solution.

                        @augieray there are very few protests in Minnesota. The vast majority of what's happening is not protests, but folks observing and documenting crimes, helping their neighbors, and other forms of non-protest direct action. @Mab_813 is raising very good and important points and your inexplicably hostile, hair trigger reaction does not inspire confidence. Please reconsider, these conversations are important!

                            After all, this is the president who casually suggested a couple of weeks ago that “when you think of it, we shouldn't even have an election.” (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/five-takeaways-reuters-interview-president-trump-2026-01-15/#:~:text=%E2%80%9Cwhen%20you%20think%20of%20it%2C%20we%20shouldn%27t%20even%20have%20an%20election.%E2%80%9D)

                            Legal experts continue to assert Trump doesn't have the power to stop the midterms (https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/17/politics/midterm-elections-trump-2026-analysis), but this is a president who claims unlimited power, has ignored court orders and rulings, and is protected by a biased Supreme Court.

                              Trump has flooded Minnesota, which has an estimated undocumented population of around 100,000 (https://www.migrationpolicy.org/programs/data-hub/charts/unauthorized-immigrants-country-region), with thousands of masked, armed agents while ignoring red states such as Texas (with 2 million undocumented) and Florida (1.2 million).

                                The poster (and I) largely agree with your points. I personally feel you are over reacting to starting a discussion about one of them.

                                It is important to be open to dialog about things you present in public. We are here in this world to educate and entertain each other, and part of that is listening when you might be wrong, instead of insisting you are infallible.

                                This isnt a fight, its a discussion. Think about where you are firing, too.

                                  @augieray 100K ICE agents is a huge number. That many people have a large logistics footprint - they all need beds, and food, and places to poop.

                                  Seems to me it would be useful to know where all of them sleep and where they buy their food.

                                    Are most Americans content to sit back and watch federal officials incite an insurrection, kill Americans, spread bald-faced lies about what happened, and end democracy? Is all that matters that you have a job and the stock market hasn't (yet) crashed? I hope we're better than that. I hope YOU'RE better than that.

                                    It's been generations since Americans have been called upon to be brave, defend our values, and fight for change. Our time has come.

                                      @augieray I've been saying this. It has to be personal. The protests have to occur at the homes of those funding and insulated from it.

                                        @augieray 100K ICE agents is a huge number. That many people have a large logistics footprint - they all need beds, and food, and places to poop.

                                        Seems to me it would be useful to know where all of them sleep and where they buy their food.

                                        @grumble209 I didn't say there were 100,000 ICE agents. I understand the parentheticals might make it a bit difficult to read, so removed, what I said was, "Trump has flooded Minnesota, which has an estimated undocumented population of around 100,000, with thousands of masked, armed agents."

                                          Kyle Rittenhouse walked up to police carrying an assault weapon during protests in Kenosha, then killed people, and Conservatives called him a hero.

                                          Alex Pretti filmed officers during a protest, kept his handgun holstered, was wrestled to the ground, had his weapon taken away, and then was shot dead, and Conservatives are calling him a terrorist.

                                          @augieray

                                          They also lost their minds when a literal insurrectionist was shot while trying to break into secure room, but people on street have no rights whatsoever and it's "just comply" or else it's totally cool to murder you. They are shameless hypocrites and terrible people, and nothing they say should ever be given a shred of consideration, take note of who they are and block/disown. MSM, dems, and too many others have played along for far too long, they're simply horrible lying scumbags and need to be treated as such.
