@jaythurbershow @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic Our "heavy plant crossing" signs never cease to amuse either.,
@etchedpixels @jaythurbershow @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic The triffids have to cross *somewhere*.

@aebrockwell @pluralistic I took this photo in Scotland. Apparently elderly people had become such a road hazard that the council felt that they needed to put up a sign.

@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic my cheery old tour guide pointed out this sign and she described it as "here's a sign warning you that women will steal your grandad's wallet"
@dresstokilt Exactly where my mind went when I saw that. "Whut? Warnig: Elderly Pickpockets".

@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic But I am trying to figure out the need for the words. Being able to recognize the silhouette would seem to be an important skill to have when driving.

@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic The British street I live on has a toad warning sign.

@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic isn't 40 plus years old 'elderly' in Scotland
-
@_the_cloud @pluralistic I remember it, or something very similar, but probably from about 40 years ago, so I've no memory of where it's from.
@Vibracobra23 @pluralistic Found it, finally! After running as a background task all day, the LLM that I've been training for over sixty years came through and remembered where I read it. Knew it was in a book I owned and had read more than once, a very long time ago. Not exactly high literature, but "The Boy's Own Annual" (Vol. 60, 1937-38) was the source of this memory:
Bill Stickers will be prosecuted
The public warnings run
The question we should like to ask
Is— what's Bill Stickers done? -

@pluralistic This thread reminds me of a sign I saw on a road trip when I was growing up. It was placed at the intersection of a road and a driveway, and I immediately started laughing as we passed it. I originally interpreted it to mean it was an entrance reserved for, I dunno, houseplants, and there must be a different entrance for people somewhere else.

@pkdmva @pluralistic See also HEAVY PLANT CROSSING which always makes me imagine some sort of triffid migration.
