@georgia @quesoman It was at uni in the UK, around 1994/5, when I was given my first email address.I used Pegasus Mail to send a message to join an American mailing list, and within 3 minutes, I got a reply.It was mind-blowing!I was used to FidoNet and BBSes, which even just sending email across the country and getting a reply could take 24h because everything was queued to be sent overnight when people weren't using the system, and phone calls were cheaper.

@tchambersWhen Threads joined the Fediverse, was the number higher or lower?There is a difference between bringing a community with me and it growing organically. Of course, in the former case, it is quite high.That is not relevant.

I’m about halfway through the podcast and it’s a bunch of journalists who have never run any kind of web site learning the basics of running something.The podcasts (Hard Fork and Searxh Engine) have lots of listeners. So it might be another decent sized influx.
