@colorblindcowboy Poor Winslow. And of course you were mad. Hopefully he's feeling much better today. Watch out for other holidays with fireworks, too. Around here, it's New Year's Eve. In other places Lunar New Year is also bad. And in some places there are celebratory fireworks when their sports team wins something big.

@firefly There's no obvious place for a nest on my roof. Someone else in San Francisco said she has ravens hanging out on her roof, and that may be all that's going on. But I'm glad to have a likely answer as to what's causing all the noise I sometimes hear up there: ravens!

@soaproot Fortunately he did just fine this year, as the local fireworks were minimal. I'm thankful. He's just gotten less skittish over the years, but a bunch of loud booms may have still been scary.

@czarbucks There's this, and then getting the death certificate for my deceased stepmother's sister. Dad left her a fixed sum in his will but the sister has since died and the will says that terminates the gift. I really don't expect anyone will contest dad's estate (where my brother and I inherit, 50-50) but I should have a death certificate just to keep the records complete. Arizona makes this a bit of a pain; among other things I need to send them a certified check or a cashier's check for their whopping $5 fee. No hurry on this one, though.
