Irish author Sally Rooney welcomed the UK High Court’s ruling that banning Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws was unlawful, calling it a major victory for civil liberties in Britain.
The court found the government’s decision to proscribe the group disproportionate and said it significantly interfered with freedom of speech and assembly.
Rooney, who submitted witness statements supporting the legal challenge brought by co-founder Huda Ammori, said the ban posed a serious threat to artistic and political expression and even risked preventing her books from being published in the UK.
