Getting shown anecdotes of people who've used genAI to diagnose themselves to try to prove it's all a good thing?

From so-called/self-proclaimed skeptics? Come on.
We've heard 'but medicine kills people too' before. It's still a bad argument against wanting to rid the world of woo - and that includes genAI.
Your friend who lies to you at least half the time is not someone you should be relying on, certainly not for your HEALTH

@noodlemaz I would simply not trust the machine which tells you to eat rocks

@noodlemaz I'm sure if you asked enough people you will find people who've used preachers and homeopaths to get medical advice too, that doesn't make it a good thing and the only people who pretend otherwise are the ones who want to be part of the grift.

@Rycochet indeed so. @hjhornbeck has mentioned homeopaths specifically.

@Rycochet Been meaning to pull out that line of counter-argument for a while, but I haven't had a good argument to pit it against. There's fertile ground around this area, too. I'm halfway through a blog post series on LLMs and mental health, and I have drafts that discuss how LLMs are excellent at pushing pseudoscience. Others have long since beat me to the wellness grift angle, alas:

I've a relation that had already, for years, been fully credulous to nearly all medical adjacent woo & quackery.
It's long ago given up the idea of taking sense into our around them and now just nod along, bite my tongue and let the results pan out. (As long as it doesn't creep into the health of others)I don't know yet, exactly, how GenAI and LLM is influencing them. Given their tendency to ignore the source of their info, probably more than they themselves realize.

@RyeNCode yeah that's depressing. We already lost so many to the nonsense during covid
