  • If measles only infects humans, how exactly does the virus persist in near-100% vaccinated societies to make a comeback when vaccination rates drop
    clewC clew

We never extirpated it worldwide, and people travel, so there’s probably always been “pressure” against the vaccinated populations

“Still common and often fatal in developing countries”

    From the CDC

And some of them have big screens and the snacks are _right there_.

Don’t know enough to guess but I’m curious. What?

  • I’ve been asked on TV hits and interviews lately to explain why decentralized social media is better, especially re: Mastodon.

  • Clare and I went on an impromptu tour of London infrastructure today after unexpectedly ending up at Dishoom Canary Wharf due to a power cut at the Kensington branch.

I have mixed feeling about that, because a very expensive starchitect *public library* near me went through lawsuits when the workers in it added legible signage that Did Not Fit the Architectural Vision. The *designers* sued, iirc. Bad players both sides, sometimes.

Paper taped inside the glass door has many humble virtues... I would personally be tempted to center-justify all of it.

  • I can’t remember where I saw it, but I feel like today is a good time to revisit the concept of “Vegan + bacon”.
    clewC clew

historical rhyme; lots of northerly peasant food is vegan with only a little bacon and buttermilk because even if they could raise meat and dairy they had to *sell* most of that -- little lardoons of bacon, and the buttermilk left over after making butter for market, is the home food

    Also delicious so

  • Is there a way to set recurring tasks (daily, every Wednesday etc) in #NextCloud tasks?
    clewC clew

It’s MORE interesting, cough cough, that there are *two* open and well established task systems with recurrence and it still isn’t managed by a big attempt. (Meaning org-mode and cron. )

    clewC clew

Org-mode has good recurrence, plus/minus all the decisions being right there in the text file.

It’s interesting comparing how org-mode and Todoist handle some things that aren’t obvious re. what we want the system to “just do”
