@Ashedryden It's exasperating how many cops, technocrats, and marketing dweebs seem to think "Minority Report" was an instructional video.

This *looks* like a pro-social use of AI, but it's not https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/ai-data-children-predict-criminals-fwclzh323 -
I have lived in the US for 23 years.@cyberlyra @c0debabe Or working at unprestigious jobs, and reading what they please in their free time. That's me. I'm a night inpatient hospital pharmacist in a backwater; I have a PhD in philosophy in addition to my PharmD, and I'm in ABD status for a doctorate in computer science. I've worked at research institutes. But I decided I'd had enough of the world of hard men and soft money.

Have you wondered where the claim that autistic people lack empathy came from?@KatyElphinstone The whole "lack of #empathy" idea builds on the #TheoryOfMind idea, which is rotten to the core. The basic paper applying it to #autistics (Baron-Cohen, Leslie, and Frith 1985) got the idea from an irredeemably flawed paper that had applied it to CHIMPANZEES[!] (Premack and Woodruff 1978). Both papers are hopelessly confused about what it even MEANS to say that a person — or an animal — has, or does not have, a "theory of mind". Both of these groups of researchers should have gotten clear on their concepts BEFORE conducting any experiments — and since they didn’t, both papers should have been refused publication.

When the war in Ukraine broke out, and Europe was hesitant in the first year, I thought alright, this is a surprise to everyone and of course we need time to prepare.@randahl It is indeed shameful. Also illogical. You #Europeans just stood up to the #USA for heaven's sake — over #Greenland, which is part of North America! — and made #Trump blink. If you can do that, you can stand up to #Russia over #Ukraine in your own back yard in #Europe, and make #Putin back down — or, if need be, take him down. Your combined economy is many times the size of his.

Are we all millenials here or is that a misperception?
