I know those who use ChatGPT to improve professional work letters. AI ChatGPT doesn't "improve" writing to refine meaning and nuance, it is designed to dumb down writing in successive loops to the most middling 6th grade level of comprehension thereby "improving" its "reach". It's the specifically designed feature of AI "editing".

I recently read a ChatGPT "improved" letter that may violate the Civil Rights Act by using a term that is a red flag for a lawsuit. I alerted the sender who confessed to using ChatGPT because her boss uses it and raves about it.

An ungraceful letter that keeps you legal is safer than a "clean" "professional" GPT letter that gets you sued. Know the risks!

@cyberlyra Hey! Excellent. I'm a happy keener. Very enthusiastic about learning and doing for its own sake. Luckily, I grew up in a family of keeners, where learning and happiness were twined goals. Not power, or status, or money. Education as a competitive sport was not a family value.
I'm not rich or powerful and have little status as I age toward the end, but my life is enriched and I am happy.

I usually use "nerd" but "keener" better describes my extroverted and sometimes over the top enthusiasm.

The issue of statehood is a mixed bag for PR. The question for its people is in its choice of independence as a very small island nation or a closer codified State through Statehood. Right now it is a non-sovereign US territory that has "commonwealth" status, that is: self-governing without sovereignty and no Presidential vote or Congressional representation.

That coupled with its majority-minority Spanish speaking population and likely refusal of the GOP to accept PR Statehood, this leaves PR statehood unlikely.

Hawai'i is the closest corollary, as a majority minority racial demographic, a sugar cane/pineapple plantations workforce, very Democratic voters, and a strategic military base in 1959 - it only became a state because it was twined with GOP Alaska statehood to zero out the political balance.

@taylorlorenz We're like a global NPR : each instance (thousands. of all sizes) is its own local radio station producing or relaying all kinds of content (local, national, global content), with free access to any other station's content through a voluntary federation. No ads, no corporations, no skeezy Nazi screwing with your feed to force a disruptive fascist content down your throat when you just want to tune into the ant station or climate change or German elections or jokes or cats or get live updates on the ground from Minneapolis. We exist beholden to no one man or corporation. And there's still a refreshing earnestness here. The meanness of X is not our vibe.

"good fit" vis a vis advertising employment preferences without directly naming acceptable qualifying required work-related attributes like "collaborative" or "detailed-oriented" or "timely" to explain context. This is because "good fit" can be (has been) used as an unlawful way to exclude qualified candidates who do not share race or gender or religion etc. attributes of the majority employed, ie "fit in".

@briankrebs I recently got a business email using a term that is a notorious red flag lawsuit bait. I emailed the sender to politely point it out. They were horrified and admitted AI re-wrote it when they asked AI to make it 'more approachable, nicer.' They forgot to add "and 100% compliant with all laws and regulations."
