@cepharum @LukefromDC @fabio @haubles Not implying anything. Just saying that “legal” is a very low bar for the fediverse.
And Germany is the second largest arms dealer to Israel and thus complicit in Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. So apologies if I don’t have too much trust in it protecting the interests of genocide victims today.
@aral @cepharum @LukefromDC @fabio @haubles Agreed - an instance that is not going beyond "Is it legal" is not really doing their job.

@aral @LukefromDC @fabio @haubles Our guidelines are not beyond German law, but in line with it as the German law is anything but alike the law of Nazi Germany as you try to imply.
@cepharum @aral @LukefromDC @fabio @haubles There is a difference between what is written and how a state behaves. You claim the laws are 'anything but alike,' yet Germany’s current role as a major arms supplier to a genocide shows that in practice, the state's (and your, for that matter) legal and ethical bar for protecting humanity hasn't shifted as much as you'd like to believe.

@JimmyB @fabio I guess they see nothing wrong with hosting an anonymous antisemitic account harassing people who oppose Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people by posting antisemitic replies and then blocking the person they are replying to.
Probably time to issue a #fediblock for berlin.social for antisemitism.
(These Zionist hasbara accounts are founded on the antisemitic conflation that all Jews are Zionists and thus all Jews support Israel and its ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people. You can even see the antisemitic symbolism in the person’s username: hydra.)

@LukefromDC @fabio @aral We are closely monitoring the account and moderating its posts based on German law as we are required to do. This does not exclude an eventual blocking of the account, but we are not there, yet.
@cepharum @LukefromDC @fabio @aral
Do you base your decisions on •actual• German law (which criminalizes public support for war crimes, and gives international law constitutional status), or vibes-based German "law", i.e., what the current "law enforcement" chooses to ignore or illegitimately overenforce? We can produce countless examples of German authorities ignoring its own laws in this matter, or actively breaking them.

It's also clear that they are only interested in some laws, not others... this is genocide we are talking about...

@israajamal @JimmyB @fabio Hi Israa, I don’t see you tagging people in your posts so they have no reason to report you beyond bigotry and hate. We will defend your account if any unfair action is taken against it.

@aral @JimmyB @fabio I'd love it if someone could explain this #fediblock business, how does it work? And how do we in our own accounts block whole instances?

@Outpatientzero@mstdn.social @aral@mastodon.ar.al @JimmyB@mas.to that's a special hashtag followed by instance admins to know which instances or accounts are problematic. There are also automates tools that follow that hashtag and regularly aggregate reports.
Or at least that's the idea - there's also been so much noise on that hashtag and so many cases of abuse that many admins are ignoring it nowadays.
