Trump is a totalitarian fascist asshole (I know it’s a little bit of overlap, but whatever).
He’s no different than Putin. These people only respect power. The best way to go after Trump is to go after the billionaires who finance him and to pull the plug on laws that benefit big tech like the right to repair and the right to reverse engineer.
Those rights by the way are integral to the concept of private property.. you know that sort of market/capitalism thing.
I've often thought that the abolition of intellectual property laws which would have little negative impact on the general population would make a lot of very rich people very annoyed.

The length of patents and copyrights certainly need to be shortened. The ability to obtain patents for only nominal improvements, if any, to existing patented products should be reduced or eliminated.

I mean if you just grew up in the 1980s, you already knew how bad trump was, without any deep dives into his history. He is open about it. This doc really demonstrates trump's mafia-style management, and how he uses underlings to buffer himself from criminality, throwing them under the bus.

It’s a matter of national security for every nation. These laws that prevent the right to repair the reverse engineer destroy property rights.

@milkman76 @ChrisMayLA6 good thing I listened to my parents, "TV will rot your brain kid." Living in NYC in the 80s, one would know all one needs to know about him. Anyone else? They saw him flying around in his helicopter on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, and stepping into the ring of the WWE.

Then he tried to assassinate those 5 innocent young black kids! He took out a NYTimes front page ad, condemning them as rapists and murderers when they were all innocent! They were exonerated later....

To get back to your point here: absolutely.
The original term is 17 years at least in the US has been distorted all out of proportion. Copyright two has been distorted all out of proportion.
In particular, I think software patterns should not be as long as 17 years.
But a chief impediment to property rights and to the kind of reverse engine engineering/Tinkering that is prevented by trade law now is an impediment to technological advancement

Have you read the work of @pluralistic on this? We may have a prefect opportunity to abolish the EU implementation of the #DCMA We could make it legal again to circumvent DRM. That would severely annoy some rich fucks and make the (digital) world a safer place. Win win!

It just seems like total madness to have a Trump ally literally in our defence infrastructure."

Agreed; there seems to either be collusion or myopia at play; the open source alternative has been ready for (further) development for years, but few Govt.s seem to know about it or be interested in developing this alternative approach - sadly!

– lack of knowledge/understanding in the political class
– anxiety, rush to be "in" on the new stuff
– skillfull lobbying, massive resources from techbros et Ali
– caving to pressure from US, hoping to gain favour with USBut its the worst of all possible ways to take on the new tech landscape
