I'm currently driving a car with the first automatic transmission I've had in my life, and even though I drove a stick for over 60 years, that guy has my sympathy.

Today we start to come out of the deep freeze. 16F (-9C) at sunrise, the first time in double digits for a while, and we're supposed to get up to 39F (4C) this afternoon. Some of the snow might actually melt.
I'll spend the day writing, I hope. I didn't get any writing done yesterday. In fact, I didn't do much of anything at all yesterday. Maybe I'll be a bit more productive today.

We're up in the double digits this morning at 14F (-10C) and we're actually supposed to have a high temperature of 32F (0C). It's a heat wave!
Scrolling through my feed this morning, it struck me that we have no taboo swear words left. We have normalized the ones we had so that they barely raise an eyebrow any longer. The only truly taboo words we have in English these days are racial and ethnic slurs.
I mean, what am I supposed to say if I shut my hand in the car door? How do I express my rage and pain? With words that used to shock, but now are used in the most trivial of circumstances?
It's a fucking shame.
