@KatyElphinstone
In my book, both girls share blame for taking on trust a statement at odds with general knowledge of jellyfish (the fact that the question was asked indicates that the possibility of danger was recognised). The originator of the βitβs safeβ information also takes a big share of the blame, but Sally gets extra blame for misjudging the trustworthiness of her informant.
In the real world, blame is rarely completely binary.

Have you wondered where the claim that autistic people lack empathy came from? -
having so much fun with this vibe coding what used to take me two or three hours can now be done in a single day@david_chisnall @grrrr_shark @futurebird
Back in the 1980s, we build a perfectly usable full X.500 email client that ran on BBC micros (thatβs 32kB of RAM, or 48kB with sideways RAM mod). Bloat has exploded since then. -

I think about βengagementβ differently on Mastodon. Before the Elon-gation of Twitter I had more than 12k5 followers there (I left at that point!) Here I have fewer than a quarter of that number, but I feel far more engaged. People scrolling past oneβs Tweets without even glancing at them counted as being βseenβ β a meaningless statistic! -
What is the point of converting this software?@samir

I may regret this at some point, but I felt the need to put down in writing how I feel about this moment in the tech industry.@av3ry3ris @Crell
OK, fair point. But AI is the problems of capitalism writ large, and any engineer/programmer buying into the hype is making things worse. Thatβs the message I took from the OP, and that is a message worth amplifying. -

Avery, youβre evidencing exactly the attitudes and behaviour that Larry is calling out. Take a long hard look at yourself! -

So it appears that ICE tells their recruits they get $50k bonus, but it comes with a severe REPAYMENT CLAUSE that says that recruits must pay back the full bonus amount BEFORE TAX if they quit or are fired for ANY REASON.@madjo @drahardja
That puts the Dems in a cleft stick: do they announce that they wonβt enforce the clawback if they make ICE employees redundant, thereby removing the financial incentive to interfere with elections but maybe pissing off their voter base? -
UK newspaper editorial opposition to climate action overtakes support for first time@tuxom
Here is an exploration of the techniques used by the right-wing press to misrepresent the costs of net-zero.
The reality is that aiming for net-zero will save money. You certainly wouldnβt get that if you only read the Daily Mail!
