Alienation from the product of labor -
Alienation from the product of labor- Alienation from the product of labor
- Alienation from the satisfaction of labor
- Alienation from labor as conscious creation (WE ARE HERE)
- Alienation from others
Marx could not have written a better exemplar of alienation than what the AI industry is perpetrating.

Everyone claiming that generative models' (dubious) capability with software is transferable to other realms is making an unsubstantiated claim. It's like this: between all examples of, say, a contract in the training corpora, what would you imagine the variance is between them? Consider variance as diction, syntax, and even conceptual structure.
Now consider the variance between all examples of, like, a login process.
It's so, so much harder to distill not-code text to produce useful output in similar shapes.
But of course, the insecure nature of the example code also guarantees a tendency to insecurity in model output as well.

But then again, it's just another permutation of engineer's disease.
Coding is the easiest thing for a language model to do.

I am just so tired of this "AI" shit.@vladimir_lu @tante Betrayal and a feeling like the world is asking me to accept something I know in my bones to be wrong.

I am just so tired of this "AI" shit.@tante It's just ruined all the joy of this field.

They are preventing you from accessing the means of computing, making you reliant on their services in the future they're building.
At astronomical rents.

What's going on here? Not quite the final chapter! Benj Edwards has taken responsiblity in this Bluesky post:
https://bsky.app/profile/benjedwards.com/post/3mewgow6ch22p
For those who won't head over there, a summary:
First, this happened while sick with COVID. Second, Edwards claims this was a new experiment using Claude Code to extract source material. Claude refused to process the blog post (because Shambaugh mentions harassment). Edwards then took the blog post text and pasted it into ChatGPT, which evidently is the source of the fictitious quotes. Edwards takes full responsibility and apologizes, recognizing the irony of an AI reporter falling prey to this kind of mistake.

What's going on here?@Retreival9096 There's an apology in the linked post.

What's going on here? The final chapter? The statement from Ars:
On Friday afternoon, Ars Technica published an article containing fabricated quotations generated by an AI tool and attributed to a source who did not say them. That is a serious failure of our standards. Direct quotations must always reflect what a source actually said.

Thinking about this, and I would love some questions answered by journalists who see this:RE: https://infosec.exchange/@mttaggart/116065340523529645
Thinking about this, and I would love some questions answered by journalists who see this:
- Is it common these days for stories to publish without editorial review?
- During editorial review, would made-up quotes from a cited source be caught?
- Do you see any difference between using LLMs to create a story (and hallucinate quotes) and just making them up yourself?
- If you had been caught doing this, what would happen next?
-
What's going on here?@tehfishman @catsalad Where do you think you are, Moltbook?

This whole "OpenClaw" thing has made me very angry and I wrote a bit about the why.@tante @stefan_hessbrueggen In the thread!

What's going on here?@kura Which I also did.

What's going on here?@staringatclouds The event is real. The quotes in the story were hallucinated.
