And my favorite subtle recurrence, a reminder $timespan after each completion.

@afewbugs An excellent thread. Somehow women never seem to fail to know (e.g.,) how to use a washing machine whereas a great many men struggle. The "emotional work" of organising a household (and keeping track, making sure children get to school, that appointments aren't missed and that they are fed and clothed is most definitely work). I am fortunate to have a son in whose household he does all of that (and works from home) while his wife works elsewhere.

I didn't find a way that I liked to do recurring tasks in NextCloud. I use Superproductivity now. That one has the benefit that recurring tasks don't just recur, they pile up. The next task doesn't simply replace the previous one.

For an ADHD chaos goblin like me, it's handy to see yesterday's "water plants" and "gym" alongside today's "dust hallway" and "gym". I'm nothing if not flaky on bad days. With the "pile" I can remember to do the things on good days.

I can also get a nudge that something is wrong if I see multiple self-care tasks piling up.

So we've strayed a very long way from Nextcloud's task manager, but the older I get the more I see "Who does the dishes after the revolution?" as one of the first questions that should be asked in any progressive space. I've seen at permaculture camps where the men wander off to form a drumming circle while the women set up the cooking rotas and compost station. I've seen it at the meetings where the men stand up and give inspiring speeches while the women organise drinks and take the minutes

            @afewbugs Aye, indeed.

And so have all of us.

I just checked on the latest NextCloud. Nope, no support for recurring tasks at all.

The Calendar, however, has support for repeating an event daily, weekly, multiple times a week, on a day of the month, or annually. And the notes field is about the equal of the Tasks description field.

It doesn't let you mark it as completed, though, or assign it to someone else.

Next I'll look in whatever they have for project management.

@dashdsrdash @afewbugs Recurring tasks (as opposed to recurring calendar events) is probably the one feature I *really* miss in Nextcloud. Yes you can kinda-sorta work around it with calendar events, but *really?*

Even the most basic version, like "repeat X days/weeks/months after completion/original due date", would probably cater to the upper 90s % of the need. On mark as completed, create a new one and copy that metadata. It *shouldn't* be all that difficult, and it *would* be *very* useful!

@mkj @dashdsrdash @afewbugs and it sounds like since the calendar app already handles this, maybe adding it to the task app would mean "just" sharing the code?

Hell I even see it in queer spaces where the women, femmes and enbies are the ones organising booking the venue and bringing home made cake after checking everyone's dietary requirements in advance. The first step towards dividing the tasks that bring the glory and the tasks that just have to be done up fairly is just noticing how they're divided now

@afewbugs Yeah, I've seen the cycle a lot in transfem spaces and Black spaces and both. Build a space, maintain the space, others come in and complain the space isn't equal enough, burn out and leave the space to build a new one. Rinse repeat.

@afewbugs thank you for posting this. It never even occurred to me that it might not support recurring tasks, since nextcloud in general seems to have the basics covered. I've been adding new one off tasks there as a precursor to moving everything there. Guess I won't be doing that 😟 @RadtkeJCJ

@mdione Even better (and I was unaware of this), apparently the backend already supports the necessary functionality https://help.nextcloud.com/t/repeating-tasks/225106/18 so really *all* that would be needed is some form of user interface support.

Which makes it even weirder that this hasn't been implemented despite it being a highly requested feature for *years*.

Come on @nextcloud, what's the hold-up!? I'd happily throw some money into the pot too if we can get this feature.

God that's depressing. I have half finished projects like that, but I also need recurring reminders to drink water, so I am not allowed even temporary use of the typical label.

Also this recurring task/meeting/event functionality is *already* standard in Outlook/MS365 for some time.

Its been an open issue since *2017*, apparently 2 weeks ago there is some pull request to add the function still awaiting merging (I don't know how long this process takes before it ends up in the main software, but someone was testing it as recently as 2 days ago)

                                      https://github.com/nextcloud/tasks/issues/34

@afewbugs i think to a certain extent it's just *easier* to make a task manager that only handles one-off tasks. a lot easier.

which is to say, there may (only may) be no misogeny here, just a complete lack of ability to actually *define* the problem before they try to solve it…

The misogyny is structural. It's systemic. And the people building the structure should look at what it does

Is there a way to set recurring tasks (daily, every Wednesday etc) in #NextCloud tasks?

@afewbugs i can't find anything on the web version right now but i heavily use recurring tasks to keep track of my weekly homework deadlines and use my nextcloud server and the tasks.org android app for that.
