@csolisr Yes I know about it. But the problem with Molly is that, that they doesn't support older android versions anymore. If I remember correctly, the lowest system version on which the app can be installed is 11. Anything older isn't supported, which is pretty big unfortunate for many people.
Btw.. Original Signal also offers two different versions of their app without google blobs included and with UnifiedPush. They are available on their page and from F-Droid repositories.

@techindepth27 @pwm just wanted to say that actually Delta's onboarding mechanism is the simplest and fastest i've seen. Start it the first time, write your name and that's it. Because it's not linked to a phone number nor pre-existing email, you don't have to go hunting for a confirmation link/code. Made the transition super smooth for a bunch of friends here

Friendica is a dinosaur that predates Mastodon and prides itself on being hostable in any web host that accepts PHP with versions as low as 7.4. A Rust rewrite would no longer be Friendica, unfortunately. There's also the zillion forks of it (Hubzilla, Zap, Osada, Streams to name a few) and those, too, are still based on PHP.

@dansup sadly, friendica was badly broken when i tried it. and i thought one point of federating was you would only need one account on one service and you could interact with other services on the fediverse. is this not the case? i still dont know how it works because ive only tried to add ppl from bsky, and i guess thats not actually federated, so it requires a bridge i didnt want to mess with. i have a hard enough time finding friends on diff masto instances.

@Drahngis @dansup the long text thing is a client issue, there are multiple clients that solve that. I believe the Webinterface collapses long text. Moshiodon certainly does.

you can use it even without a phone.

it uses SMTP/IMAP under the hood, with a random address. nothing is persisted on the server, for metadata, see https://delta.chat/en/help#message-metadata

When it comes to the Fediverse you sometimes need other accounts but it depends on the sort of experience you want, I work fine off a Microblogging account for most of my interactions, I use a software called Sharkey for more usability and it allows me to follow users off Loops, PixelFed, Mastodon, PeerTube or Lemmy but it's a little annoying / needs some work arounds to post onto Lemmy, PixelFed is easy to post my stuff onto as I simply need an image in the post. PeerTube and Loops are kinda a no go for them seeing my content even if I upload a video sadly but that's fine if you don't want to be a creator in that matter.

These systems like Loops are new or even in BETA so it'll take some time to make sure these work all together but it also depends on the people using it, if you feel like a feature is missing voice about it, see who has the same opinion, if you have tech knowledge code it.

@sam yeah, i already knew bsky wasnt truly federated, and thats why i gave up on trying to interact with it. the only other services im possibly interested in are peertube and lemmy, but i have enough problems just trying to interact with friends on the same instance (mastodon.social). when i post about an issue, i usually get no interaction or people asking me what my server setup is like, and sadly i have no coding knowledge. i wish things Just Worked a bit better for people in an expected way
